Wild weather forecast for weekend

Extreme weather producing thunder, squalls and hail storms is expected to make for an unusual weekend, the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Friday.

“Slight air pressure differences will determine Germany’s weather over the coming days," DWD meteorologist Stefan Külzer said in a statement.

“This means that moist, warm air will produce storm conditions in the south while brisk North Sea air will cool regions in the north.”

Southern and eastern regions could be hit by thunder storms and even hail during the last part of Friday.

Highs are expected to reach between 19 and 25 degrees, while temperatures in coastal regions near the North and Baltic seas will not exceed 17 degrees, but stay relatively dry.

Cloud cover will disperse for much of the country during Friday night, though thunderstorms are still possible in the southeast.

Fog could also creep up in areas that have received rain. Temperatures will drop to between seven and 13 degrees, though the extreme north could get colder.
